Last week's Financial Friday post was about serving others, this week, I share another way to improve your finances in that same spirit: to give generously.

One of the common reasons that we run into financial trouble is because we are obsessed with stuff, then we need to buy stuff to organize the stuff, then we then often need to pay to store the stuff.

Do yourself a favor and stop the madness.

If you are paying to store your stuff, chances are good that you don't need that stuff, so get rid of it.

This is where we should give generously to those in need.

Someone in need may include a neighbor who recently lost their job and who is struggling, or a family you know who just lost everything in a fire or natural disaster.

Maybe there is a garage sale at your church or organization that is raising money to help the poor.

Search out causes and find ways to give generously, it will do your heart good.

My motto this year is "have less to be more".
