I am going to be honest here, I enjoyed the first several steps of getting my finances under control but it wasn't until I got to this point, where I could pay myself first, that I realized how far I have come and had the sense of accomplishment.

What does this look like for me?

Because I stick to a budget, I have a good understanding of my inputs (when my husband and I get paid and how much) and the outputs (our regular recurring expenses, including tithing and budgeting for the unexpected), I know how much should be left over.

Before we plan on any large purchases, date nights, or shopping sprees, I pay myself first by putting a set amount into savings every time we get paid.

I have a monthly goal and I get excited when I reach that goal, like winning in Monopoly with a big pile of money in front of me.
