Core competency is the knowledge, skills, and capabilities that are the "secret sauce" of the company and can include: Initiative, flexibility, conflict resolution, ambition, accountability, stress management, teamwork, etc.


Your company's core competencies are unique to the success of your company.


Only your company has a pinch of this and a dash of that, therefore competitors cannot duplicate it, although they may try.


When looking to add to your team you will want to add candidates that can contribute to the company in these areas.


If you are interviewing for one of these positions, you will want to be familiar with the company's core competencies, it may make a difference between you and the other applicants.
